Paush Amavasya: The last date of Krishna Paksha of Paush month is called Paush Amavasya. Paush Amavasya is tomorrow i.e. on 11th January. Amavasya date is considered to have great importance in religion and astrology. Many religious activities are performed on the day of Amavasya. On this day, Tarpan and Shraddha are performed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. Fasting is also observed on this day to get rid of Pitra Dosh and Kaalsarp Dosh. By doing some special work on the new moon day of Paush month, one gets the blessings of Shani Dev and gets freedom from his ill effects.

- Amavasya day is considered very good to please Saturn. Peepal tree must be worshiped on this day. Offer water to the Peepal tree and chant the mantra of Saturn ‘Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah’. On the day of Paush Amavasya, definitely visit Shani temple and offer mustard oil or sesame oil on the idol of Shani Dev. This provides relief from the ill effects of Saturn.
- Pausha month has been said to be very virtuous and fruitful. To please Shani on Paush Amavasya, Dashrathkrit Shani Stotra should be recited along with Shani Stotra. Visiting Hanuman temple on this day also brings blessings of Shani Dev. Donate black sesame or mustard oil to the poor on this day. Do not consume non-vegetarian food or alcohol even by mistake on this day. If there is a Shami tree somewhere near your house, then worship it by offering water, mustard oil, black sesame seeds, jaggery etc. on it. On this day, Shani mantras or Chalisa should be chanted in front of the image, yantra or idol of Shani Dev.

Bringing the auspicious Shani Yantra home and worshiping it on this day brings happiness, peace and prosperity in life. To get the blessings of Saturn, it is beneficial to wear 7 Mukhi Rudraksha on this day. Lord Shankar is considered the guru of Shani Dev. Therefore, those who worship Lord Shiva on this day and offer sesame water on Shivalinga get the blessings of Shani Dev.
